About DST
A server tool that grew into a full operations workspace.
DST started as a handful of PowerShell helpers wrapping kubectl calls into a Dune: Awakening self-hosted VM. Over time it grew into a full local web portal — a single Windows app that owns the workflow of running, editing, backing up, and updating a Dune dedicated server without living in a raw SSH shell or hand-editing YAML. It now also manages a validated local Solo save through an independent, backup-first workflow.
In v15, Classic remains the familiar default. The optional Command Deck brings a World/dashboard, focused workspaces, and a persistent tool dock. The static DD Atlas is a reference for Deep Desert layouts, not a live game map. The responsive Browser Portal carries supported remote administration to other devices.
It's built and maintained by Coastal (Discord @allcoast), released under the Apache 2.0 license, and lives on GitHub at coastal-ms/DST-DuneServerTool. Bug reports, PRs, and forks are welcome — see CONTRIBUTING.md for the change-control workflow.
For help, tips, and chat with other self-hosters, join the DST community Discord. New releases are announced there too.
How it's put together
The native app shell is a Windows WebView2 host that loads a React + TypeScript + Tailwind frontend served by a local PowerShell HTTP + WebSocket server. The backend automates a Hyper-V VM over SSH, talks to a K3s cluster via kubectl, and reaches into the game's PostgreSQL database directly via psql. The installer is built with Inno Setup; CI runs on GitHub Actions; and the in-app updater pulls the next release straight from the Releases API.
Coastal is occasionally open to small consulting projects involving Windows tooling, server automation, or game-server operations — reach out on Discord (@allcoast) if that's relevant. No formal pitch, no rate card; just a quick chat.
